Loss Prevention Shift

The most interesting competitive differentiation in P&C right now is not product design or distribution. It is loss prevention.

For decades, the carrier value proposition was simple: pay claims when losses happen. The implicit contract did not include helping the policyholder avoid those losses in the first place, largely because the data and connectivity to do so did not exist at scale.

IoT sensors, telematics devices, and predictive analytics have changed that equation. Commercial carriers are using moisture sensors and predictive maintenance data to flag building risks before losses occur. Personal auto carriers are providing driving feedback that demonstrably reduces accident frequency. Specialty lines are integrating threat intelligence feeds that allow policyholders to respond to cyber risk in near-real time.

The carriers investing in these capabilities are not just reducing losses. They are building a qualitatively different relationship with their policyholders, one that creates loyalty no price comparison tool can easily disrupt.

Loss Prevention Shift

The future of P&C insurance is not faster claims payment. It is fewer claims worth paying. Build the capability accordingly.
