Cloud Migration Strategy

Lift-and-shift cloud migration is the path of least resistance -- and often the path to disappointment.

Insurance workloads that were designed for on-premise infrastructure carry assumptions about compute, storage, and latency that do not translate cleanly to cloud-native environments. Running a legacy policy system on a virtual machine in the cloud is not a modernization; it is an expensive reproduction of the same constraints.

The carriers extracting real value from cloud are those who used migration as an opportunity to refactor: decoupling batch processes, externalizing rule engines, and adopting managed services for functions like document storage, notifications, and analytics.

The tradeoff is timeline. Refactoring takes longer than lifting and shifting. But the payoff in elasticity, cost optimization, and the ability to adopt new services quickly is substantially higher.

Cloud Migration Strategy

Cloud is an operating model, not a destination. The carriers who treat migration as a one-time project will keep repeating it; the ones who build cloud-native habits will compound the advantage every year.
