Data Storytelling Underwriting

The best underwriter in the room is not always the one with the deepest actuarial background. Increasingly, it is the one who can explain a risk decision in plain language that a CFO or a broker understands immediately.

Data is now abundant in underwriting. Telematics, satellite imagery, third-party enrichment, credit proxies, building permit data -- the inputs have multiplied. The scarce skill is synthesis: taking those signals and building a coherent story about why this risk is priced the way it is.

Carriers that invest in data literacy for their underwriting teams are seeing better broker relationships, cleaner submissions, and faster turnaround. Brokers want to know why, not just what.

The shift also matters internally. Underwriters who can present a book-of-business analysis to leadership in a clear visual narrative have more influence over portfolio strategy than those who deliver a spreadsheet and let others interpret it.

Data Storytelling Underwriting

Underwriting excellence in 2025 is part technical judgment and part communication craft. Invest in both sides of that skill set.
