First 90 Days Framework

The executives who make the strongest starts in new insurance leadership roles share a common instinct: they listen far more than they direct in the first month.

The temptation to arrive with an agenda and begin executing immediately is understandable, especially when the role was created to drive change. But the leaders who start by understanding the existing culture, the informal power structures, and the historical context behind current processes consistently outperform those who begin with solutions before they have fully understood the problems.

The second month is the right time to form hypotheses and test them in small, visible ways. Low-stakes wins that demonstrate competence and build trust with the team are more valuable at this stage than bold strategic moves.

By day 90, the best leaders have a clear and specific point of view on the two or three things that will drive the most value, and they have built enough relational capital to begin executing with the organization rather than against it.

First 90 Days Framework

There is no shortcut to understanding the organization you have joined. The 90-day investment in listening pays dividends for the entire tenure.
