Insurance Leadership Diversity

The insurance industry looks different at the leadership level than it did ten years ago -- but not different enough.

Intentional diversity programs, pipeline investments through HBCUs and professional associations, and executive accountability for representation metrics have moved the needle at many carriers and brokers. The progress is real, particularly in analyst and mid-management ranks.

The ceiling effect persists at the executive and board level. Sponsorship -- not just mentorship -- is consistently cited in research as the differentiating factor between diverse talent that reaches executive roles and talent that plateaus below them.

Industry associations and insurance schools have expanded their diversity scholarships and fellowship programs significantly, building a pipeline that will matter more at the leadership level over the next decade.
