The carriers achieving the best underwriting results in 2025 are not necessarily the ones with the most data -- they are the ones with the most trustworthy data.
Raw data volume has exploded across the industry. Telematics feeds, third-party enrichment sources, satellite imagery, and IoT sensors produce more signals than any actuary can manually process. The bottleneck has shifted from data scarcity to data quality and governance.
Dirty data -- duplicate records, stale addresses, inconsistent coding -- degrades model outputs no matter how sophisticated the analytics layer on top. Garbage in, garbage out is not a cliche; it is an underwriting loss ratio problem.
Investing in data pipelines, validation rules, and governance frameworks is unglamorous work. But it is the foundation on which every pricing model and risk selection tool stands.
