Insurance AI Auditability

You cannot defend a model decision you cannot explain -- and regulators are making sure the insurance industry understands that clearly.

Data lineage -- the ability to trace exactly what data was used in a model, where it came from, how it was transformed, and how it contributed to a specific output -- is becoming a regulatory and operational necessity for carriers using AI in underwriting, pricing, and claims.

Model auditability goes further: when a coverage decision or pricing outcome is challenged, the carrier must be able to reconstruct the logic that produced it. Black-box models that cannot support that reconstruction are liabilities, not assets.

Building auditability into AI systems from the ground up is far more efficient than retrofitting it after models are deployed. Carriers making that investment now are building the compliance infrastructure that will be required of everyone in the industry within a few years.
